Visiting

Everyone is welcome

You do not need to be a Sikh, or to know what to do, to come to the Gurdwara. Come for the divan, for langar, or to look around. A sevadar will help if you are unsure.

Before you come in

  • Cover your head. Scarves are available at the entrance if you do not have one.
  • Take your shoes off and leave them in the shoe racks. Wash your hands at the basins.
  • No alcohol, tobacco or vapes on the premises, and please do not come in under the influence.
  • Dress modestly. Trousers, long skirts and covered shoulders are all fine.

In the Darbar hall

  • Walk up the centre, bow before Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji if you wish, and sit on the carpet with the Sangat. Men and women usually sit on separate sides.
  • Sit cross-legged or in any comfortable position that does not point your feet towards the Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
  • Karah Parshad, a sweet offering, is given out at the end. Receive it with both hands cupped.
  • Phones on silent, and please do not take photographs during the Ardas.

Langar

Everyone eats together, sitting in rows on the floor. The food is vegetarian and free. Take what you will eat and go back for more if you like.

Group visits

Schools, colleges, workplaces and community groups are welcome to arrange a visit with a sevadar to explain what they see. Contact the office with your dates and numbers.
